On Saturday, May 18 at 5 PM we will host our annual fundraising dinner at The Idaho Club. We invite you to join in as we look back at our student success stories and forward into our exciting future. Music Matters! Musical Theater presents The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny, directed by Liz Iha. This musical is based on Beatrix Potter’s classic tales. This timeless favorite takes shape in musical form in a fun performance. Three shows:

Tortellini ~ Or, the Day We Ran Out of Lobster

This operatic comedy was inspired by real life events that begged to be presented in an orderly, musical fashion...an opera. Tortellini is a dinner opera comedy, drawing from a variety of repertoire from different operas. The script was written by the artistic director, Karin Wedemeyer, who herself was greatly inspired by an energetic and highly motivated cast. The opera’s hidden message is secretive…we hope the audience will tell us after dessert!
Ticket price includes buffet dinner of tortellini, salad, bread, and tiramisu. Complimentary bottle of wine for table reservations ~ Italian of course. Wine will be available for purchase.

Singer and songwriter Karen Atkins has been in the music and wellness arena for over 20 years. She has worked with many well known names. Her distinctive approach embodies lyrical precision, authoritative guitar riffs, and poignant melodies, enriched by the wisdom gleaned from her extensive experience in guiding others towards self-healing.
The Music Matters! Handbell Choir and Ensemble Choir will captivate you in this concert at the First Presbyterian Church. Alanna Dixon and Jubilant Duvall will perform excerpts from Stabat Mater. This offering is free to the community, please join us on Sunday.

The Music Conservatory is thrilled to host this esteemed visiting artist. Concert pianist and piano professor Peggy Reich began her piano studies at age 5 at The Hoff Barthelson Music School in New York, and continued through her teens with Baruch Arnon of the Juilliard School of Music. With increasing dedication to her music, she enrolled in the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and studied under Menahem Pressler (The Beaux Arts Trio) and Dr. Joseph Rezits, where she earned a degree in piano performance. Peggy Reich presents Ostranenie Musicale, a recital that explores the mystery of 5 fingers performing as 10! Peggy will perform with the artistic technique of Ostranenie as she sends melodic tones, intertwined voices and rhythmic flow reverberating through Little Carnegie.
Student recitals give students the opportunity to perform the pieces they have been working on this semester. Sign up sheets will be in the main office, talk with your teacher about arranging a time for your student. Performances are broken into two sessions each day, beginning at 5:30pm and 7:00pm
Fabio Menchetti leads the workshop: Music by Living Composers. Appropriate for piano students, piano players and enthusiasts as well. No ticket is required for this workshop.
Pianist Fabio Menchetti is an active performer and teacher. Assistant Professor of Piano at Washington State University, he frequently tours the United States to share music in a variety of concert venues. The Music Matters! Youth Orchestra, Youth Choir, Percussion and Bell Choir groups play Christmas music in the First Lutheran Church on Tuesday at 6 pm. No tickets are needed for this concert. Suggested donation of $10 per family may be donated at the door.

North Idaho Philharmonia will perform this October, in Sandpoint and in Coeur d’Alene. You are invited to the First Lutheran Church on Friday, October 13 at 7 pm, located at 526 S. Olive Ave in Sandpoint. The second performance in Coeur d’Alene takes place at the First Presbyterian Church at 521 Lakeside Ave Sunday, October 15 at 2pm. Don’t miss this beautiful program featuring Alanna Dixon, soprano, performing in Mozart Exsultate Jubilate K. 165. The program also includes the Mozart Flute Concerto #2 and Schubert Symphony #5, D. 485. Kent Kimball, conductor.

Rachel Taylor Geier’s program is arranged like books on a musical shelf. Bookends: Watercolor Dreams to Vibrant Fantasies is inspired by the juxtaposition of pieces ranging from dreamy impressionist offerings by Claude Debussy to vibrant and virtuosic French works. Pieces between the bookends feature a triplet note structure, which, in essence, is also a miniature note-based bookend.
Dr. Taylor Geier’s musical journey is also a bookend. Beginning her flute studies in Sandpoint, Dr. Geier went on to receive degrees in Flute Performance from DePauw University, San Francisco State University, and a DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) degree from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She now returns to Sandpoint, to complete the bookend, as a guest artist for the Northern Idaho Flute Festival as well as for the MCS premier Conservatory Concert for Fall 2023. The Contemporary Music Department presents Takumi Kato in concert playing Taiko, traditional Japanese drums. Through the strong, gentle and warm tones of the Japanese drum, Kato hopes to bring people together, nurture bonds and deliver a performance that encourages peace and thankfulness. He brings the ancient music to Little Carnegie for one night. Non-ticketed event, entry is by donation, with all gifts going to Takumi Kato. The fire doors will be open if weather permits.
You are invited to welcome Shira Samuels-Shragg to our region, and to help raise funds for the conservatory’s Music Matters! outreach. The “sip and shop” will be hosted at the Pend d'Oreille Winery, located on the corner of Third and Cedar Streets, in downtown Sandpoint. Aaron Wilcox is a senior at Sandpoint High School and has been playing piano for four years. He studies with Matt Goodrich at MCS. Also passionate about classical Spanish guitar, he began his journey to fluency in Spanish in part due to his love for this art. In the future, he plans to continue studying music.
